As a bright & shining musical note in a dull & sonorous winter, Capitalrecordings is exceedingly happy to announce the release of “Contimental Drift” (CREC1008) by Audio Sauce.

Wellington-based Miles Tilly aka Audio Sauce has been a busy man over the last two years since the release of “Diversecity” (CREC1005), the first Audio Sauce album and our first single artist release back in July 2002.

Initially given to us as a demo in August 2002, a mere six weeks after the release of his first album, “Contimental Drift” was envisioned by Miles as a more varied piece than “Diversecity”. The underlying theme was of skipping through a crackly old radio, hence the use of interludes and the broad range of musical styles and elements, ranging from instrumental hip-hop to drum&bass to jazzy broken beats to soulful electronic folk to chunky house beats and all musical destinations beyond.

While the central theme remained, the core of the album changed and changed and changed again over the course of the last two year’s worth of musical maturing by Miles.

Vocals were recorded with Miss Tyc aka Bex Riley, singer on the hit “What’s Down Low” by Bailtercell & Schumacher; a 12” with four of the tracks from the album was released (CREV1205); two videos were completed with animator Paul Herschell, including the award winning “Bee Bo” (Special Commendation for Animation, Kodak Music Clip Awards 2003); Miles made it to the finals of the 2003 Heineken Found at Thirst DJ/producer competition; and most bizarrely, a track was licensed to a Japanese advertising firm for use with a milk carton commercial. As I said, it’s been a busy two years!

In April this year we drew the line and pulled together the 24 tracks that comprise “Contimental Drift”. Mastering was given over to the more than capable hands of Jeremy ‘50Hz’ Geor, and sleeve design to Tana Mitchell. And it’s out into world with it! While we can’t say we’re not happy to be finally releasing “Contimental Drift”, it’s been a fun journey getting here and we’re a bit sad to be finally letting go of it. So, we hope you like it as much as we have and do. Enjoy!
