“Involve releases music with a sense of place, a sound that is a place and of a place. Here we welcome you the Archipelagos of Involve, to explore our geography and find your way among our islands. Coming from an island as remote, and so often as removed, as New Zealand there will always be a question to what extent the place is the music. Involve is a New Zealand label from an international place. Involve’s geography is its sound, not necessarily its place. Here is compilation of ‘indie’ music, a sound from an independent place. Involve records is emerging out of the electronica and post-techno scenes, and is continuing its mission to create a platform for innovative and warm music.”

This compilation shows Involve bringing together artists separated by distance, but close in musical intent. Taking commonalities of sound, of style or feel, of intent or interest, Involve seeks threads connecting geographically disparate artists. Capitalrecordings is happy to be able to bring to you to this, “the Archipelagos of Involve”. Get stranded. Get Involved.

ARCHIPELAGOS
Here is our geography

ANDREW THOMAS ::
Escaped Palmerston North and now lives in Roseneath, Wellington. The features of his island move to fit the shot and always have perfect camera angles.

STEPHEN LAWRIE ::
Now lives in a midlands hideout (UK), routes of escape are close at hand. The necessity for quick getaways means Stephen’s island is close to all major highways and airports. If you lived here you’d be home by now.

ANDY GREENMAN ::
Is a Londoner now living in Nottingham. His is a party isle for those who know when you need to go out with a length of lead pipe.

ANDREAS JONSSON ::
Now living in Glasgow comes from Sweden. Andreas has an island built from a jigsaw puzzle. The poetry of the pieces is in their symmetry and repetition.

ROB WALTON ::
Lives in the coastal English town of Portsmouth. Rob is the new shining island where they don’t speak your language, but soon you will want to speak theirs.

MATTHEW MITCHELL ::
Is a New Zealander living in Hungary with a Russian girlfriend and, a presumably Hungarian dog – although the dog’s nationality may be unclear. Visitors return from Matthew’s island with tales of outlandish recipes and multi-stringed instruments understood by no-one.

MICHAEL BARRETT ::
Lives was raised and born, all in Perth, Western Australia. His is an island of tale and fable, colony and conquest. It waits to be redeemed by history and music.

JOÃO ORECCHIA ::
Now lives in Berlin and New York City is a long way away.

BEVAN SMITH ::
Lives in Wellington, New Zealand and grew up in New Plymouth on the West coast of New Zealand. He is an empty island, deserted industrial compounds left over from a future that never took place, tumbleweeds of old newspapers and scoured concrete badly patched.
